Who we are and What we stand for:
mumsDU is a coalition of Canadian mothers who have lost sons and daughters to overdose and other drug related harms. We openly share the experiences of our children’s drug related deaths with communities, policy makers and professionals across Canada. We do this in order to bring awareness to this crisis and affect much needed change.
mumsDU advocates for drug policy reform that will keep drug users free from harm and that ensures ready access to effective and timely treatment.
mumsDU urgently calls for immediate access to Naloxone (Narcan), the opioid overdose reversal medication, for all first responders including the TRUE first responders: family and friends.
mumsDU appeals for a Good Samaritan legislation that takes the fear of arrest away from calling 911 when in the presence of an overdose.
mumsDU calls for all health and social care providers to use compassion and understanding when interacting with drug users and their families and supporters.
mumsDU supports initiatives for the continuing education of doctors who prescribe opioid medications.
In April 2016 mumsDU will attend the United Nations General Assembly Special Session (UNGASS) on World Drug Policy being held in New York City. There we will be the Canadian voice demanding reforms in international drug policies, in collaboration with our international partners.
